The Oak Mikado coffee table, designed by Alain van Havre, is not simply a smaller version of the Mikado dining table. It’s a complete reïnterpretation of the larger designs of the dining table and a study of balance and symmetry.
Solid wood pieces such as the Oak Mikado Coffee Table are finished only with pigmented hardwax oil, which allows the natural texture and finish of the oak to shine through, but will also require regular maintenance. You can expect some very minimal patina over time as the wood settles into your home and takes in the moisture from the air. Excessive moisture, extreme temperatures (think, a glass of ice water melting without a coaster) and direct sunlight may cause the piece to shift color or the hardwax oil to evaporate quickly. Sanding with a very fine sand paper and reapplying hardwax oil will bring new life to the piece instantly.
